Tweaked Identities, Tricked-Out Ideas, and Big-Time Transformation. Tom Klinkowstein and Dr. Anna Akbari rethink the traditional, linear career path model as a sort of personalized, labyrinth-like "choose your own adventure" novel, and explore the large-scale significance of personal adaptations and customized lives.

The document discusses the concept of a "fractal professional" and how it differs from traditional approaches. A fractal professional has T-shaped skills rather than vertical expertise and takes an iterative, observational approach to problem-solving and validation rather than definitive or survey-based. They communicate strategies through visual and multimedia scenarios instead of spreadsheets. Characteristics of becoming a fractal professional include reading widely, building a large network, having an elevator pitch ready, and fostering leadership skills.

The document discusses the future of design and innovation. It explores how design is moving beyond traditional client-focused work to take on larger societal challenges. Designers are now combining various types of reasoning to explore new possibilities. The document also profiles several individuals working at the frontier of design, technology and society, including an anthropologist studying human-technology relationships and a hacker working to advance space exploration.
The document discusses the future of design and innovation. It describes how design has traditionally relied on client relationships but is now taking on larger societal challenges through approaches like design thinking. Emerging trends in technology and society are blurring traditional boundaries and enabling new types of collaborative, transdisciplinary work. The document profiles several individuals and projects that exemplify this new paradigm of design focusing on positive impact and change at both social and global levels.
This document discusses the concept of cyborgs and humanity's evolving relationship with technology. It explores how devices like smartphones have become extensions of ourselves, blurring the boundaries between organic and machine. The concept of the cyborg represents the merging of biology and technology, causing us to reexamine ideas around what it means to be human.

Overview of the course and user experience map two slidesThomas Klinkowstein
The document outlines an agenda for a workshop on horizon projects, including presentations on user experience, developing a user experience map and groupware for feedback, creating branding and a social media calendar, building a web prototype, and providing a large summary display. The workshop will provide an overview of the semester for a class.
The document discusses a Horizon Projects workshop focused on making government more transparent. It references increasing honesty and transparency as the first step towards wisdom in governance, as noted by a quote from Thomas Jefferson. The workshop aims to open up government processes and information.
This document describes a workshop between design students at Pratt Institute in New York and AKV St. Joost in Breda, Holland over several years using online tools. The workshop aimed to test online collaboration, justify the design profession, and facilitate meaningful exchange. Projects included uncovering values, creating value, and nurturing trans-national manners. Students engaged in critique, design thinking exercises, autobiographical videos, and exploring unexpressed wants. Lessons learned were that meaningful exchange is difficult but ethos is more important than technology or nationality.
The document discusses a workshop hosted by Tom Klinkowstein of Hofstra University's Fine Arts Department. The workshop introduces high school students to different areas of design including architectural, product, fashion, graphic, interaction, service, experience, and transmedia design. It provides an overview of the design process from research and concept development to creating a unified design offering.

The document describes a workshop for high school students led by Professor Tom Klinkowstein on various design topics including architectural, product, fashion, graphic, interaction, motion graphic, service, and behavior design. The workshop aimed to teach students about solving practical problems through aesthetic solutions and different areas of design.
The document outlines an upcoming workshop hosted by Professor Tom Klinkowstein of Hofstra University's Fine Arts Department. The workshop will provide high school students lessons and instruction on various design disciplines, including architectural, product, fashion, graphic, interaction, motion graphic, service, and behavior design. The document discusses a presentation given by Tom Klinkowstein at the Horizon Projects Workshop. It notes that Klinkowstein grew up in America but lived in Europe between the ages of 25-35, and observed differences in the questions asked by these two cultures. The European question focused on whether everyone is at least a little satisfied, while the American question focused on what's next and pursuing happiness. The presentation also discussed Abraham Lincoln as both an inventor and president, and Martin Buber's philosophy of sincere and respectful human dialogue.
The document describes a high school design workshop hosted by Prof. Tom Klinkowstein of Hofstra University. The workshop aims to teach students about different design disciplines like architectural, fashion, graphic and product design. It includes exercises for students to envision new types of design careers by creating a composition combining a hyphenated design job title, a selfie, and an image from an indie film to suggest an unexpected purpose for design. The goal is for students to explore designing solutions for the future and how they can shape their own future through design.
Getting Ready for 2020 (at the Copenhagen Institute for Interaction Design)Thomas Klinkowstein
This document outlines a workshop on horizon projects to prepare for 2020. It discusses three main topics: 1) Trans-National Manners, which focuses on respectful human interactions beyond national borders. 2) Slime Mold Careers, and how professions may take unexpected forms. 3) Becoming Caring Cyborgs, and how humans and technology are increasingly merging through capabilities like Watson assisting doctors with personalized care. The document suggests the need to take an exponential view of technological change and consider hybrid roles and careers on collaborative platforms.
The document summarizes a workshop on getting ready for 2020 that discussed trans-national manners, careers involving slime mold, and becoming caring cyborgs. It notes that technological change occurs exponentially, not linearly, and that capabilities will change both slowly at first and then all at once. Emerging technologies will re-scale human capabilities and the importance of casual media, fixed careers and jobs, and characterizing technologies as us versus them will matter less, while adhoc manners, hybrid roles and careers, and shared intelligence will matter more.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive functioning. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.

We recently hosted the much-anticipated Community Skill Builders Workshop during our June online meeting. This event was a culmination of six months of listening to your feedback and crafting solutions to better support your PMI journey. Here’s a look back at what happened and the exciting developments that emerged from our collaborative efforts.
A Gathering of Minds
We were thrilled to see a diverse group of attendees, including local certified PMI trainers and both new and experienced members eager to contribute their perspectives. The workshop was structured into three dynamic discussion sessions, each led by our dedicated membership advocates.
Key Takeaways and Future Directions
The insights and feedback gathered from these discussions were invaluable. Here are some of the key takeaways and the steps we are taking to address them:
• Enhanced Resource Accessibility: We are working on a new, user-friendly resource page that will make it easier for members to access training materials and real-world application guides.
• Structured Mentorship Program: Plans are underway to launch a mentorship program that will connect members with experienced professionals for guidance and support.
• Increased Networking Opportunities: Expect to see more frequent and varied networking events, both virtual and in-person, to help you build connections and foster a sense of community.
Moving Forward
We are committed to turning your feedback into actionable solutions that enhance your PMI journey. This workshop was just the beginning. By actively participating and sharing your experiences, you have helped shape the future of our Chapter’s offerings.
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the success of the Community Skill Builders Workshop. Your engagement and enthusiasm are what make our Chapter strong and vibrant. Stay tuned for updates on the new initiatives and opportunities to get involved. Together, we are building a community that supports and empowers each other on our PMI journeys.
